How we approach it

Waterproof luxury vinyl plank that looks like wood or stone and handles real life.

Luxury vinyl plank has become the default for a reason. It is genuinely waterproof, it takes a beating from dogs, kids and roller bags, and today's wear layers and embossing look convincingly like oak, walnut or stone from standing height. For kitchens, baths, laundry rooms and rental turnovers it is usually the smartest money on this list.

The difference between a good LVP floor and a bad one is almost entirely underneath it. Vinyl is thin and flexible, so it telegraphs every dip and ridge in the subfloor. We flatten first, check moisture on slabs, and choose between floating click-lock and glue-down based on the room, the traffic and the subfloor — not on which is quicker to install.

We also plan the plank layout so seams do not land in a doorway, the pattern does not repeat in an obvious line, and the perimeter keeps the expansion gap the manufacturer requires so the floor can move without buckling.

Why Baltazar Floorcovering

What we do differently on vinyl & lvp flooring

  • 01

Flat subfloor or it will show

Vinyl is thin. Every ridge and hollow you leave underneath will read through the finished floor within a year.

  • 02

Built for rentals and busy homes

LVP is what we most often recommend for rentals and busy family homes — a floor that will not be babied. We spec accordingly.

  • 03

    Expansion gaps done right

Floating floors move. Skipping the gap at the perimeter is the number one cause of the buckling you see in DIY jobs.

Questions

Vinyl & LVP Flooring — the things people ask

Is LVP really waterproof?

The plank itself is. Water that sits on the surface will not swell it the way it would swell laminate or hardwood. What matters just as much is the perimeter and the seams — a spill that gets under the floor and stays there can still cause problems, so we finish edges and transitions properly.

Can you install LVP over my existing floor?

Sometimes. Over a sound, well-bonded, flat surface it can be an option and it saves demolition. Over anything loose, hollow or uneven it is a false economy. We will check and give you a straight answer.

Do you offer free estimates?

Yes. Every project starts with a free, no-obligation estimate. We measure the space, talk through your material options and give you a written price before any work is scheduled.
