How we approach it

Porcelain and ceramic tile for kitchens, baths and entries — set level, grouted clean.

Tile is the most permanent floor we install, and the least forgiving of shortcuts. A tile floor that was set on an unprepared or deflecting subfloor will crack along the same line for the rest of its life, no matter how good the tile was.

So we start underneath: check the subfloor for deflection and flatness, install the right membrane or backer for the space, and waterproof properly where water is involved. Then we lay out from the center lines so cuts land where they are least visible and the pattern reads straight against your walls — which are almost never as square as they look.

Porcelain, ceramic, large format, hexagon, wood-look plank tile: we set them level with consistent lippage control, grout to a clean and even joint, and seal where the material and the location call for it.

What's included

What you get with this service

Written into the estimate, so there is no debate later about what was and wasn't part of the job.

  • Subfloor assessment — deflection, flatness and suitability for tile
  • Backer board, uncoupling membrane or waterproofing as the space requires
  • Layout planning from center lines so cuts fall in the least visible places
  • Setting with lippage control for a level surface, including large format
  • Grouting to a clean, consistent joint
  • Sealing where the tile and grout call for it, plus cleanup and haul-away

Why Baltazar Floorcovering

What we do differently on tile flooring

  • 01

    Waterproofing before tile

In a bath or a laundry, the membrane under the tile is what actually keeps water out. Tile and grout are not waterproof on their own.

  • 02

    Layout planned, not improvised

We dry-lay and strike center lines so you do not end up with a sliver cut at the doorway you look at every day.

  • 03

    Level, not just flat

Lippage control on every tile, particularly large format, so nothing catches a bare toe or a mop.

Questions

Tile Flooring — the things people ask

Can you tile over my existing floor?

Occasionally, over a sound and well-bonded surface with enough height left at the doors. More often the honest answer is that the old floor has to come out so the new tile sits on something that will not move. We will look and tell you which situation you are in.

What grout joint width will I get?

It depends on the tile — rectified porcelain can take a very tight joint, while a handmade or non-rectified tile needs a wider one to absorb size variation. We will show you the options on your actual tile before we grout.

Do you offer free estimates?

Yes. Every project starts with a free, no-obligation estimate. We measure the space, talk through your material options and give you a written price before any work is scheduled.
